Designing a “What Matters” Week
It’s Sunday around 4:00pm.
Do you know how you’re going to spend the week ahead?
Let me shift that slightly…
Do you know how you want to spend the coming week?
That change matters.
It’s easy—and very natural—to fill our days with meetings, appointments, and chores. Those obligations are real, necessary, and part of a satisfied life.
But when they become the only things on our calendar, we slowly lose sight of what we want.
So pause and ask yourself:
What matters most this week?
What are the true priorities you want reflected in how you spend your time?
Yes, there are need-to-do’s. We all have them.
And… to live a more fulfilling, well-rounded life, it’s essential to interrupt the musts with a few wants.
And before you say it—no, this isn’t selfish.
Think about it.
When you include things you enjoy, how does it impact you… and how you approach the “gotta-do” list?
Right. Things feel lighter. Less overwhelming. More manageable.
And honestly? That’s refreshing.
So, here’s a simple practice to try when planning your week:
Create two lists
• Do
• Want
Then, schedule both into your calendar.
That’s intentional living.
P.S. Increase the likelihood of following through on the wants by telling at least one person about them. Sometimes a little shared accountability goes a long way.
