Reclaiming Identity After a Life Shift
At some point, many of us face a moment where we quietly ask ourselves, “Who am I now?”
This question often arises following a major life shift.
Transitions, whether chosen or unexpected, can leave us feeling untethered. Even positive changes can create a sense of uncertainty as we adjust to a new reality. This is a normal and very human response.
Across my career and personal life, I’ve navigated:
• 9 moves
• 3 mergers
• 2 layoffs
• 18 positions changes/promotions
• The loss of my mom
• And ultimately, starting my coaching business
Each shift required me to re-evaluate and reconnect with who I was at my core.
What I’ve learned is this:
Circumstances influence us, but they don’t define us.
Returning to my core values and identity helped me move forward with clarity and integrity again and again. Identity isn’t a fixed point. It evolves as we evolve. And as my business grows and the way I want to show up continues to expand, I revisit this process often.
Letting go of outdated beliefs, responsibilities, and expectations creates the space to reclaim the identity that aligns with who you are today - not who you were yesterday.
If you’re in a time of change, remember:
Your identity isn’t something you lose.
It’s something you continually rediscover.
